Facades/ Glass cladding/ Flat glass/ Security glass
Butacite® is a PVB resin layer which is adhered between two glass lites by a combination of pressure and heat to form security glazing. In case of impact, the glass fragments remain adhered to the PVB. In addition, other desirable characteristics of this assembly are: a superior level of sound attenuation, solar energy and ultraviolet radiation control; all without image distortion.
Spallshield® is a specific multi-layer film which prevents the dispersion of shards after impact. It is composed of Butacite® and polyester and is applied on the exterior face of the glass, to the interior of the space.
The laminate can be applied over any type of glass: monolithic, tempered, double glazing or curved glass, in any combination and thickness necessary to reach the required impact resistance.
All the windows of the Petronas Towers (56,000 m2 in total) use glazing laminated with Butacite® to guarantee security in case of impact, as well as for sound attenuation and reduction of UV radiation. Photo: modery.
The bulletproof glazing series GuardVue®, produced by Viracon, uses Spallshield® in its lamination, with thicknesses between 19.3 mm for the model GuardVue 1000 up to 73.4 mm for GuardVue 8.20.
