Granuland wood granules are produced using recycled waste from the wood industry, collected at lumber and paper mills in the region of Landes, France. After they are cleaned and sorted into grades from 2 to 10 mm, the woodchips receive a spray treatment which is thoroughly absorbed by the open fibres of the green wood. They are then dried at a low temperature (80º C) and undergo a process of mineralization, giving the granules strength and virtually unlimited durability.
The granules are particularly suitable for making lightweight concrete (from 600 to 1000 kg/m³ ) and insulating concrete with a λ value from 0.15 to 0.25 W/mK. Concrete made with Granuland has a compressive strength from 1.5 to 5 MPa and a M1 fire rating. It is used primarily for lightweight topping slabs in composite floor structures.
Granuland is available in 50 litre sacks (alone or mixed with extruded polypropylene fibre), and in 27 kg sacks of premixed concrete, composed of wood granules, lime and cement.
