Skylights and clerestories permit the passage of light, but also allow the entry of other, pernicious solar radiation. The translucent materials let in the ultra violet radiation that cause deterioration, and the infrared radiation that generates heat creating the “greenhouse effect” characteristic of this type of glazing. Solar-Shield Lux is apt for transparent or translucent glass, polycarbonate, methacrylate and other synthetic materials. It functions as a light diffuser and improves visibility by preventing annoying reflections and glare produced by natural light in interiors. It absorbs 93% of the effects of the ultraviolet rays, preventing the deterioration of perishable merchandise and the discoloration of objects. It also reduces 70% the effects of the infrared rays, acting as thermal insulation and reducing air conditioning costs. In rehabilitation it can be used to recondition deteriorated synthetic surfaces, regenerating the base materials and providing long term protection from water and weathering.
